A Dinner Still Warm

78”×39”×20”

Acrylic on canvas fabric

My family is scattered across the world. Often, meals are our last moments together before parting and our first moments reunited after crossing oceans. For us, there is no better meal to share stories over than at home hot pot. Yet even after we part, our last dinner stays warm through phone calls, photos, and texts. This acrylic painting captures the fleeting warmth of a shared meal through saturated colours, before the table’s darkness and tears emerge too soon from below. It explores the tension between the vibrancy of togetherness and the fragility of moments we cannot hold onto. This piece also marked my first experiment with exaggerated, saturated colours on a canvas larger than myself.
